Apparently I am being selfish

Hubby is not happy with me and a couple of my friends think I am being mean.

I have never been a fan of receiving gifts, I would rather see the money spent on the kids or things needed for the house / family. I found out that he had made an order for Valentines Day for a present for me. To me it is a huge waste of money for a commercially created event. I don't need a huge balloon and teddy bouquet. Breaky in bed or even a cuppa together at a cafe is more than enough for me.

Am I being mean ? Am I the only one that feels like this ?

I don't know if it is because in my last marriage I never received anything other than a step machine 6 weeks after our first child was born (Mother's Day) or the air compressor I got for the car for Christmas one year...maybe I just gave up years ago. I really don't know why I feel this way.

i'm not a fan of commercially driven events either, but a relationship is not just about what one partner wants is it?

if it makes him happy to give you a gift don't take the shine off it for him, thank him and spend the next year showing him how little gestures for no reason have more meaning to you than buying into the grand gesture for valentines etc.

That's the thing. He picks me roses each week from our garden and I often get breaky in bed and get massages etc. He is a sweetheart and is so romantic all the time.

I know you are right. I feel mean now lol. It's just that money is so tight and having it spent on something like this makes me feel guilty.

I must admit I love to get flowers but not on V day.  I'm too old for that carp anyway, and never really been into the whole day.  He's younger though hey?  Does he know you know?  if not suck it up say thanks and in a few weeks make a pact, no more valentines day pressies.

Yeah he knows I know. He can't keep a secret. The business he ordered from is a friend of our's and he came home saying "I have just been to Mel's but I can't tell you why coz it is a secret" LOLOL

He is lovely. Yeah he is younger than I am and he does know I don't like money being spent on me. It has been an issue since we got together. He thinks I will "grow out of it" once I get used to someone spoiling me.

I think I will just suck it up...and I will make him his favourite dinner as a thankyou for being so sweet.

I will say let him do this and accept gracefully or you will hurt his feeling, there is little more hurtful than someone rejecting a gift given with love

I do every single day Trish. I am a lucky girl. And it's not just me he spoils. He is very generous all round. He spoils the girls (but not in the trying to win them over kind of way). He is the kind of guy that will go without eating to lend a friend money. I am truly blessed.
