Re: Are you a Sinner? Is there such thing as Sin?

'Peccavi'

The most brief and brilliant example of a favourite British form of humour, the pun.

In 1843 Sir Charles Napier conquered the Indian province of Sind (now southeast Pakistan), and was criticized in parliament in 1844 for his ruthless campaign. A girl in her teens, Catherine Winkworth (1827–78), remarked to her teacher that Napier's despatch to the governor general of India, after capturing Sind, should have been Peccavi (Latin for 'I have sinned').

She sent her joke to the new humorous magazine, Punch, which printed it as a factual report under Foreign Affairs. As a result the pun has usually been credited to Napier.

get married.

most religions consider sex outside

marriage to be a sin.

Has anyone ever been able to explain why? It's pleasurable, it hurts no-one and it doesn't break any of the ten comandments (unless you are doing it with someone else's partner.)

---------------------

It's pretty easy to work out.

There are world wide taboos against sex with lots of partners & for a push towards stable relationships

1. So men have more confidence that they are the father of any baby.

2. To encourage men to stick around and support the family unit.

It's a win-win situation (on average) for men and women. They both get something out of marriage which is why it has survived for so long.

If you look at the stats, it is a sad but true fact that where there are child bashings, sexual assaults etc it is more likely to be a step dad than the natural father. Not saying that all step dads are like that, of course they aren't. But casual partners don't necessarily have the same attachment if they know the children are not theirs.

But only for women. The only taboo for men was that having sex with another man's wife or daughter was a form of theft (you were devaluing his property) If he had enough money or prestige a man could pretty much do what he liked - there are many Fitzroys in the English speaking world, but I've never heard of a Fitzreine.

1. So men have more confidence that they are the father of any baby.

That wouldn't stop 'daddy' straying from the marriage bed, though, would it.

2. To encourage men to stick around and support the family unit.

Divorce and subsequent relationships are a separate issue to sex outside marriage. And even given that a stable marriage is the best environment for bringing up children that doesn't mean having sex before marriage is harmful or undesirable.

Seems polks is too red-faced to explain.

A lot of people - usually young people - claim to have a child without actually having had sex together. For example, it could be caused if they grinded without any clothes and things got a little *heated*. There's a proper medical term for it, but I have absolutely no idea what it is haha

And I haven't worked out yet if you genuinely didn't know or if you were just winding up polks...

I have never seen such naivety demonstrated.

If you are only 18, you are a very young 18.

I have already stated who IMO is doing the winding up.  haha

Yes, we missed you.  I thought you might have been planting your trailing plants and taking a pic to post.
