Are you prepared to work until you are 70?

There is no way I will be. I am not planning to work beyond 55!

But it won't affect people like me will it? I have my own plans and they will be self funded.

So once again, it will be those less fortunate and less able to take care of themselves who will suffer.

that begs the question if you didn;t support the rise to 67 why do you support the rise to 70 simply because it comes from abbott /hockey ? seems a bit mindless having no opinion of your own and simply putting all of your faith in the tea party liberals Smiley Happy

i guess thinking for yourself is out ?

Maybe they should retire at 65,THEN return to work when they're 67-70.How's that sound?

If all people will be working until they are seventy where are the volunteer coming from.

We hear how many Millions Dollars the volunteers save the government each year.  As a large number of are over retirement age did Hockey factor in these extra costs.

Hockey hasnt even done this yet the usuals are all up in arms and if it ever happens and I dont doubt that either side of govt will have do it at some stage its not going to bother or worry any of us....

Labor has actually raised the age, the libs havent....

Who said I didnt support the rise to 67? PROOF please or are you just making an unfounded accusation?
It wasnt a  popular policy at the time to take the pension to 67 for many but as I am a realist and can see past the hand outs its a policy that had to happen.
why do you support the rise to 70
Who said its actually going to go up? In reality its going to happen no matter which party in in power over the next 20 or 30 years and I doubt it will affect or worry you at all or most of us here so whats the problem?

When John Howard and Peter Costello were in they were talking about raising the retirement age to 72.

That was leading up to the election they lost.

I don't support it, but I don't think it requires Chicken Little to walk the plank either

They didnt do it and all govts talk about this policy or that policy, doesn’t mean it will happen and its usually called a "white paper" and thats for discussion and debate....

So I take it you are a supporter of Labors policy that raised the age to 67 starting in 2017 to 2023  then?   Must be from your comments.

I am when you read the financial reasons for it and just how broken  the current pension system is into the future.

We simply cant afford not to do something about it and discuss it now

You may wish to go and read these papers from  TREASURY...

http://www.treasury.gov.au/PublicationsAndMedia/Speeches/2014/Fiscal_sustainability

and this one  http://www.pc.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/129749/ageing-australia.pdf

Not sure how we will afford the pension or the never ending welfare in decades to come..
