THE body governing halal meat in Indonesia is accused of demanding tens of thousands of dollars in "donations" and travel expenses from Australian businesses.
Indonesia's Tempo Magazine reports that meat entering the country must be certified halal - that is, prepared under Islamic guidelines - by groups licensed by the Indonesian Clerics Council (MUI).
Tempo reports that Australian groups seeking certification must pay large "donations" to the MUI, and foot the bill for groups of its representatives to visit.
Head of Halal Certification Authority based in Sydney, Mohammed El-Mouelhy, told Tempo that even though he agreed to the terms, he never got a halal label and was never told why.
Tempo reports seeing receipts for one business' deposits to the head of the MUI, Amidhan Shaberah.
The largest was $10,000, apparently to stop the MUI revoking the license of a business called Australian Halal Food Services.
Australian abattoirs are also being made to pay hundreds so the approved groups can inspect their facilities.
Director of meat processors JBS Australia, John Berry, told the magazine the high cost of halal certification was limiting business and concerning meat exporters who deal with Indonesia.
AAP has approached the MUI for comment.
Indonesian Twitter users expressed outrage at the report.
Some called for the end of the MUI "monopoly" and many called its conduct "haram," or forbidden by Islamic law.
"Heart & conduct must be halal too," user Rudy tweeted.

What celebrations have been changed "so as not to offend" ?
I am preparing my food in the same way I always have - who is "forcing" us to do otherwise ?
Can I suggest you are mistaking "forcing" for "making allowance for" or "accommodating" or (shock horror) "accepting" ?
What is wrong with making halal meals (I guess that's what you're referring to) available to prisoners ?
how about this one, it should get your interest, its an interesting concept

I think you are confused Snakes. This problem is all about exports, and the palms that have to be greased in order to find an overseas maket. It has absolutely nothing to do with Muslims living here

That is one of the lessons we need to be teaching want-to-be migrants.
They need to be taught that women are their own people here and rape is rape. If they're not willing to gain an understanding of that and live by our laws we should not accept them as being genuine refugees or migrants in search of a better life.
Keeping them in a remote prison without teaching them about our culture is not doing anyone any favours.

"If", that quote starts with "If", Afghan men are no different than any other men - there are plenty of Australian born men in our prisons for rape.

OMG! Have I been breaking the law all these years without knowing it? Is it now illegal to send Christmas cards or attend Midnight Mass? Am I obliged to wear an hijab or a burqa when I venture outside my home? Is it forbidden to eat non-halal; food? .Can I be arrested for failing to face Mecca and pray five times a day? What other crimes may I inadvertantly be committing ? . Please enlighten me before I get thrown into prison.

Exactly. I don't agree that there is any excuse for rape and we should teach potential migrants about our laws.

The only difference is I seriously doubt the Australian or European born men used the defence that its OK to rape woman because they are not equal to men and have no rights

It's not OK for muslim fathers to take their infant daughters to Malasia & Indonesia to have their baby girls gentitals removed to the extent that they have labia fusion so there is no way it can be reversed.
The peace loving muslim society we have in this country should be outraged but we never hear a peep.
So the horrific slaughter in the halal manner they practice on defenceless animals shouldn't surprise us.
Heaven forbid if we offend the Indonesions for their rotten corruption and appalling practices.

If we were privy to all the defences used by australian or european born men convicted for rape I'm sure that they are just as offensive and ridiculous, yet I doubt we would then paint all men from that country with the same brush.
