Australian actor Rod Taylor has died in Los Angeles at the age of 84. Taylor was born and brought up in Sydney, and received his early training there, but he spent most of his career in Hollywood, working in film and TV.
He was a suave performer who later embraced tough guy roles. He said that it was seeing Sir Laurence Olivier in Richard III in an Old Vic tour of Australia that inspired him to pursue an acting career.
He starred in George Pal's The Time Machine, Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, Delbert Mann's Separate Tables, and John Ford's Young Cassidy. His last role was in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, in which he came out of retirement to play Winston Churchill
