Australian of the year.

I would like to say congratulations to Rosie Batty. But it's hard when you've lost your child.

Sorry, but that just reads off.

Yes she's done a lot for domestic violence issues. But she lost her son. Her only child.

But we'll cry for those money hungry DH's in Bali.

I admire her. And I am so sorry for the price you paid.

Maybe I'm missing something ?  I don't see how joonos comment was off . . . .

To me, it's a bit like the Morcombe's - It's a most tragic situation to have lost a child, however in both instances, these grieving & selflessly giving parents have used an extremely negative & sad situation to positive advantage to try and create positive change for the future good of many families & people and in effort to try and stop the same misfortune happening to others.

Forgive me, but I don't see how that is off (and no, I am not trying to stir - that's not the way I operate)

I found it "off" because of the support for the law breakers in the other thread. They should get a break, they've grown. Comes across like a never mind, move on.I admire Rosie Batty.  But remain sad about the circumstances.

Re: Australian of the year.

What's more amazing is that it is not even one year since that tragedy.

She began this undertaking before her initial tears were dry.

More power to her for trying to change entrenched attitudes.

You do make the oddest connections, Nevyn - maybe it's the way you are 'wired.'

I was delighted to see Jackie French receive the Senior Of the Year award. She is a real  battler, a brilliant writer, a passionate environmentalist and one of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet.

Re: Australian of the year.

Did you all listen to her speech?  It was very moving.  Can't help but shed a tear.
