Justice Minister Michael Keenan has confirmed to Sky News that eight Australians have had their personal details compromised by I.S.
'We are aware that there has been a hack that comprised around 1500 people, and eight of those are Australians,' he told Sky News.
Australian Defence Force employees and a Victorian MP are among the eight Australians affected.
The personal details of over 1400 people across the world, including their phone numbers and email addresses, have been shared on social media, Fairfax Media and News Corp reported on Thursday.
A link to the spreadsheet was first posted on Twitter by Australian terror recruiter Neil Prakash.
IS claims to have accessed the data by hacking US government and military computers.
Australian Islamic State recruiter Neil Prakash first posted links to the information on Twitter in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The details, which were still available online late on Wednesday, contain a message from the hackers which reads in part:
'Know that we are in your emails and computer systems, watching and recording your every move, we have your names and addresses, we are in your emails and social media accounts
'We are extracting confidential data and passing on your personal information to the soldiers of the khilafah, who soon with the permission of Allah will strike at your necks in your own lands!'
Minister Keenan said the Australian government is always vigilant to this threat.
'Our authorities are very good at protecting us in the online environment... clearly if there was any physical risk to any Australians then we would take action immediately .'
