Seems like they are being punished instead and life is going to be made harder for them.

Exactly if a carer tries to care and do extra work, they become ineligable for carer payment if they do too much,. The means test threshold kicks in really low, so they are stuck at poverty level. Because of carer duties they cant have the best job they could otherwise, if they do too many hours at a pitiful rate to compensate, they loose eligibility. So they have to lie about the number of hours they put in.

1. It is not easy to be granted DSP
2. It is not easy to be granted Carer's Allowance.
3. Anyone who thinks its easy has never been there themselves.
4. There is already too much stigma when it comes to those on DSP

Oh Bluecat I know and I understand its just a shame so many don't. With the issue of DSP cutiegirl I think it was was worried about her severely disabled child (forgive me if I mixed that up). I found the following for you:
Young people on the Disability Support Pension also face a crack-down. All DSP recipients under 35 who signed onto their pension between 2008 and 2011 (when tougher eligibility criteria were introduced by the previous Labor government) will be reassessed under the new, tighter system.
People with a ''severe or manifest'' disability will not have to re-apply, which appears to leave the way open for recipients with a mental illness to be reassessed.
It seems if I am reading it correctly that those with a manifest or severe disability will not have to go through reassessment. I hope that is the case. But its not good news for the others 😞
I am so upset about the PES esp when they are claiming they want people to access education. This will significantly impact us and means less therapies for the girls and we may need to re consider Tafe. As the cost to access it with petrol and fees is already stretching us, this payment made it possible. Back to the drawing board. Hugs to those feeling upset and struggling.

I suspect that they will predominantly target those with mental illness.

Probably right, they can't be seen discriminating against someone in a wheelchair!

@bella_again wrote:Yes its scary Lane ends, they want participation, you do participation they remove the support and they expect better results... It's awful. It looks like they are going to review everyone under 35 now on top of that. What hope do they have ? So many carers will be tempted to chuck the towel in, its hard on them already with out this added BS 😞 I hope they leave those who are severely disabled alone and that those manifestly approved will not have to go through the review process.
I see people with disabilities being reclassified (off the DSP) and if within a year they haven't found work where they live being expected to move, afford to live in an area with lower unemployment and expected to be able to function and look for work away from any support systems/carers they may previously have had and need to have..

Oh it's shocking that's for sure. It looks as if for now those manifestly approved and those with severe disabilities won't have to face reassessment so they are relatively safe apart form regular or usual reviews. However my concern is for those that you have mentioned, its a frightening scenario that will only result in more desperation and a country closley resembling the problems that the US has in terms of homelessness etc.
