This is heartbreaking... what kind of kids are we raising when they think it is ok to make practical jokes like this.. I bet the young victim isn't laughing at this joke...
These kids that did this attack need to be taken out the back of a police station and given a good old fashioned hiding before going to jail for a very very very long time... And their parents need to be forced to pay compensation to this young man forever... X-(

That is plain disgusting.
I heard about it on the radio this morning, but it sounded like a group of teens were experimenting with explosives and it went wrong. That would have been sad, this is tragic.
That poor child and his family.
If anyone hears about a fundraiser, could you please post the details here?

I think it is heartbreaking.
But I'm going to go out on a limb and say I wonder if the fact that the boy is autistic is just a co-incidence.
Teenage boys have been stupid enough to be trying to make home made bombs every since I can remember. They are just too stupid too understand the consequences and so every couple of years you get some story like this of a boy being maimed or killed as a result.
Those kids would have no idea what to expect when they make something as dumb as a golf ball bomb.

In QLD 17 year olds are dealt with as if they are an adult ... I imagine the charges will be severe as will the punishment.
I can't imagine the child's life with no hands ... I hope he can at least get some prosthetic hands.

It's a pity they can't make the punishment fit the crime, If the 17 year old is found guilty, I'd like to see him made to become his victim's 'hands' - if not for life, then at least for the next ten It's a pity they can't make the punishment fit the crime. If the 17 year old is found guilty I'd like to see him sentenced to become his victim's 'hands' - if not for life, then at least for the next ten years.

A very disturbing event, makes me wonder where the world is heading when so called humans can do such things. X-(

better still, his hands should be chopped off and transplanted onto his victim.

But I'm going to go out on a limb and say I wonder if the fact that the boy is autistic is just a coincidence.
I have heard that the young victim has always wanted to be friends with these kids but they have constantly bullied him...
apparently they "threw" the golf ball at him to catch and the gold ball exploded...
then the bullies ran off instead of staying and calling for help and assisting the victim.
Those kids would have no idea what to expect when they make something as dumb as a golf ball bomb.
I spoke with my 15 yr old aspie kid and he knew exactly what would happen if someone was holding this type of bomb... serious injury and possibly blow your hands off....
You can't make excuses that these kids would have no idea about what to expect... what else would be the result of making a bomb of any type??
They are just too stupid too understand the consequences and so every couple of years you get some story like this of a boy being maimed or killed as a result.
Every couple of years you hear of kids hurting themselves.. not making a bomb and throwing it at a disabled kid to cause injury for a laugh...
no excuses.... these boys are the worst type of bully and I am just thankful that my Aspie son has no interest in trying to make friends... I am thankful he is happy with what and who he is.... having him home schooled now and so much happier it makes me wonder if there was some bullying that he did not tell me about..

It's shocking and horrible but before anyone strings the other boy up the bullying accusations are coming from the boys family and they don't even know the other boys. They are in shock and I can understand that.
If what was supposed to be just mucking around has had such devastating consequences then I'm sure the other boy is very distressed too.
Anyway, it is very sad.

yes a agree and probably would
