I contunually find it staggering, how the Australian public love to unmercilessly bag their elected leaders!
It doesn't seem to matter who's in power - we just have to nitpick, don't we?
Now don't get me wrong...I'm not defending Abbott, or any other pollie for that matter, but **bleep** - let's get some perspective going here.
Below are some links to sites with other broken election promises.

Unfortunately, the sad fact is that we need to vote for one of the parties - you know, the self-serving, money and fame-grabbing sycophants destined for a retirement of luxury, that the country can ill afford.
Don't tell me to cast a dud vote either - that just makes things worse, and allows you to shirk your responsibility as a member of society!
I can clearly remember the Vic Premier, John Cain, retiring in 1990, on well over $1million a year, immediately after running up a debt equating to every Victorian man, woman and child owing a debt of around several hundred thousand dollars!
(Gross Victorian debt - $13 billion in 1992).

"I can clearly remember the Vic Premier, John Cain, retiring in 1990, on well over $1million a year."
Any ideas how this was made up, or the source of this information or was it just a stab in the dark?

Well publicized at the time. Hearsay ATM, as I don't have the facts and figures to hand - it was after all, well over 20 years ago now.
I'll do some digging to see what I can find. I'll get back to you.

Well just remember -don't let any facts get in the way of good story

Would you rather live in a country like Laos? Seeing as we don't, we live in Australia, openly criticising any current Govt is perfectly normal and it doesn't result in getting thrown in jail or worse.

I take offense at your insinuation!
Now, where's that bus?

Bit of a silly question there,am*3?
Of course I'd rather Australia.
It's just that regardless of who's in power, we feel the need to bag them - yet funnily enough, no-one ever owns up to voting them in!
It's very much the 'tall poppy' syndrome.

I don't think it s the tall poppy syndrome. Yes, we do like to laugh at and bag out our leaders but during the previous minority govt it reached a new depth of low talk. Between abbott, murdoch and friends it became a frenzied attack like never before.
No OL in history has ever refused to address the PM by the correct title for the entire term and no OL ever declared their only job was to "bring down the govt, whatever it takes". This same person now expects all in opposition to do his job for him and give in to his every whim.
And no previous govt has ever tried to erase all signs of those who governed before just for the sake of erasing them. Reasonable policies should be improved not erased.
