Didn't they know how much pain this would cause their mothers? Dealing with drugs just isn't worth it.

What a revolting thing to say. Shame on you really.
Yes, I know it was a harsh thing to say, but really . . . there are signs on the airport walls in Bali warning of the death penalty for smuggling drugs in Indonesia and it's a well-publicized fact over here as well. it's been in the news often over the past few years and more.
It's not as if they didn't know and understand the risks, is it? I really do feel sory for their families, but the smugglers chose to risk their own lives and to risk putting their familes through all this grief and it didn't stop them or change their minds.
I don't like the death penalty for anyone, but it's a fact in Indonesia and they were very srupid to take such a risk for themselves, and very callous to take such a risk for their families.
