why you ask???
because our soldiers died fighting for our country, and these two men are unfortunately being executed in a foreign country
because so many patriotic Australian young men VOLUNTEERED to fight for our country does not mean they gave up their lives willingly
I'm pretty sure they did not have in mind that they were volunteering so that they could be killed
how you can even draw a comparison between an execution and soldiers fighting for their country I have no idea

Time has provided you with rose coloured glasses Icy.
I wish that Joko Widodo would spare their lives but it seems that is not to be. If that's the case then just do it. Why add torture to the death sentence as well.

went to their deaths willingly in gallipolli
volunteered to risk their lives for their country
whats the difference?
cant believe people are actually arguing over this.

probably because of this distasteful post
Kind of pales into insignificance when you think of the tens of thousands of young Aussie men who went to their deaths willingly in the Gallipolli campaign we commemorated yesterday.

I wonder if the announcement was made deliberately on ANZAC day as a message to Australia by the Indonesian government?
The two topics are not even comparable and it is poor form to do so. It is irrelevant. WWI was supposed to be "the war to end all wars".The young men [and women] signed up willingly but did not willingly choose to die. They blindly fought for king and country, as was the norm for the times, without realising what lay in store for them. There is no such thing as a good war.

Possibly. But I think my rose-coloured glasses at least let me see through them.

Agree on all three points.

To announce this on Anzac Day!
Distasteful doesn't even come near it, I could think of many other words to describe it but I will not besmirch the day of our fallen to indulge in it.

i have no doubt.

It was the media who brought Anzac day into this, and I think icy actually has a point - the execution of 2 drug smugglers pales in comparison to what Anzac day stands for - the death of so many who put their lives on the line for the sake of their country.
Blame the media for the tacky comparison, not icy.

For trying to smuggle drugs out of that country and into theirs (ours).

You're right. There's no comparison. Yet I'd like to think these young men about to be executed will go with the same resolve and courage, and with reflection on their past lives and the effect their deeds have had on others, for better or for worse.
