The article didn't really say whether they were chuffed or not.
They keep painting over them here in Melbourne. Lost forever

No they are keeping it Stawks, and are delighted and flattered. The Head and teachers that is. They are going to preserve it and have no plans to sell it. Just been reported on the afternoon's BBC news bulletin. There is a BBC link, but apparently they don't work on here in Oz, for some strange reason..
Anyway, the link is here:

Yep, wouldn't mind the dosh that the letter alone would fetch at auction, never mind the painting. And yes, the Bristolians have that salty-dog Pirate type lilt. to their accents.
BTW Stawks, does that BBC link work for you ? It does for me, but then I'm here and you're there.

Cheers, Stawks. I've posted a couple of BBC links on here in the past, and two different people said they didn't work for them, so I've always been careful not to post any more.
Honestly, you can't trust anyone these days. Present company exepted o' course.

One of my sons had a graffiti piece he did in Brisbane "preserved" by the council. It was starting to fade and wear off so they repainted it! He never told them it was him who did it, but through his local connections found out what happened.
I've seen it, it's pretty cool
