Scott Morrison and the Abbott govt are grown ups and getting on with the job without all the shouting and every 10 minutes media interviews.

The Abbott govt is doing what they got voted into to do and the left hate that fact and seem to want to see more people drown at sea.

Nero, I have accepted that there will never be an answer from that quarter to any of the questions I put , there never has been and I doubt that there ever will be.

But I do like to observe the fancy footwork and convoluted evasive gyrations of avoidance 🙂

Whether you are an Australian citizen by birth depends on the date of your birth.

Most children born in Australia before 20 August 1986 are Australian citizens by birth unless one parent was entitled to diplomatic privileges or was a consular officer of another country.

Children born after that date are only Australian citizens if at least one parent was an Australian citizen or permanent resident at the time of their birth.

Children born in Australia to parents who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents, automatically acquire Australian citizenship on their 10th birthday if they have lived most of their life in Australia.

I thought you would know that Poddster. It isn't a secret, just ask the large numbers of NZ'ers with children born here.

That is a bit of useful info that i was unaware of.

The UK has similar laws. My GD was born in London, to Au citizens. She is an Australian by birth. She lived there for 18 months but has no claim to being a UK citizen.

My GD who was born in Australia (mum is Australian Citizen but born in UK) is a dual UK and Australian Citizen.

There are actually 42 cases pending about that at the moment (no I don't have a link) for the 42 women due to give birth at Darwin.

The argument is that because the parents of a person seeking asylum are Stateless, then so to is the child. Then because the child was born in Australia, it is our responsibility to protect that child's rights and grant them automatic permanent residency.

There is a bit of a kerfuffle as to who's jurisdiction it falls under, but they're fighting to keep it out of the High Court.

Something to do then with if the child is to remain here, then who cares for it if the parent's aren't residents/citizens. So then they're pushing for residency for the parents as well and then any other children.

the woman who gave Birth in Brisbane last year (who was "separated" from her child for periods over 4 days when discharged from hospital) is still in Brisbane, as is the rest of the family.

They keep appealing being sent back to Nauru citing health concerns.

Pity isnt it poddy...... just shows the character though
