Boycott Bali

If the horrific murder of two Australians is carried out then we should boycott Bali and all things Indonesian.

We gave over a $billion dollars to this country after the tsunami, we prop then up with foreign aid and they spit in our faces.

They have  ignored all diplomatic attempts to mitigate their sentences and Watta a Joko has now signed the order to send them to the "killing Island" wouldn't want to kill them on Bali now would they, might upset the tourism business.

I'm appalled and disgusted, scared and frightened for these men and heartsick for their families.

What part of that sentence can anyone disagree with?

People believing that they can pick and choose the consequences of their actions is naive.

Is anyone disagreeing with that?

I think most are trying to find a way to stop it because they don't agree with the death penalty.

By claiming they should not be executed, is trying to pick and choose their consequences.

Re: Boycott Bali

PM Abbott has belled the cat re Indonseia's hypocritical stance on executing international prisoners whilst doing everything in their power to change a foreign govt's mind from executing on of their own citizens.

PM Abbott is being criticized for his efforts to save these two Australians from sections of the left. Abbott hating knows no bounds when this is the result from left leaning commentators.

Usually the support for the abolition of the death penalty is the purview of the left but as we are seeing all over the world, the left has shifted and now are supporting things that would, in the past,  be unthinkable.

Obama is a prime example of this with his non stance on a harder line for ISIS and refusing to even name the terrorists as muslim. We are seeing the danger facing Jews in Europe to the extent that the PM of Israel has urged them to come home.

We are seeing the left's support of the death penalty which would have been unthinkable in the past.

Indonesia is a rich country, a larger economy than Australia's and one of the world's great coal exporters - so why did we ever send aid there?

Indonesia are a massive well resourced nation right on our doorstep .... and as soon as stability in government is restored and a decline in corruption resurrects the value of their currency, they will be classified as quite rich, so even accepting aid is hypocritical of them - as in their determination to execute citizens of other countries while appealing to third party nations not to execute Indonesian prisoners

The world has turned and it's not pretty.

Re: Boycott Bali

i agree boycott Bali always. Their  police and government are corrupt. No-one can hope to feel safe in a place like that.

And as for the Australian Drug runners. I understand people don't want the death penalty for them but think of this. They have never cared about the families they have torn apart with the drugs they have sold. Nor did they care about the laws of Bali, knowing that if they got caught - they would die. Yet did it stop them - NO. I will not be concerned for the fate of drug runners or a corrupt country.

Re: Boycott Bali

I respect your opinion and you have every right to voice it.

My stance on these two particular condemned Australians is they have served 10 years in a hell hole, rose above it and became teachers and role models.

The have atoned every day for the last 10 years and they are now going to be shot like dogs.

The country who acts like this is worse than that crime these two men committed.

In a civilised country they would not be executed 10 years later, why have they spent 10 years in this situation? because Bam Bam did not get elected on a platform of denying ALL prisoners clemency, which is against the constution of Indonsia and against human rights.

Re: Boycott Bali

On Wednesday night vigils were held across Australia in support of the Australians, including at Toongabbie in western Sydney, which was read a letter from each of the men.

"Please tell everyone at tonight's vigils in Australia that we are amazed at how kind and supportive everyone has been and it has touched our hearts," Sukumaran said, in a letter read by The Chaser's Craig Reucassel.

As we face what's coming, we thank everyone who has supported us. There are no words for this kindness.
Myuran Sukumaran

"It has helped our families so much. It makes us even more determined to be better people and to do more to help people; to show more kindness like that which everyone has given us, especially our families.

"Whatever happens, I know that me and Andrew are good people now and that even though we've been in prison with a death sentence, we have been truly blessed.

"Blessed to have beautiful family and friends. Blessed to have received so much compassion and kindness from people forgiving our stupidity and supporting our change for the better.

"As we face what's coming, we thank everyone who has supported us. There are no words for this kindness."

Reucassel also read a letter from Chan to the service.

"I would like to thank you for attending this vigil on the grounds of mercy and hope," he said.

"This campaign is more than just about myself or Myu. It represents a second chance and forgiveness. It represents kindness and help for those in helpless situations.

"Mercy represents us all here. I would like you to take a moment and reflect just on the word mercy. Please don't let this just be about myself and Myu but about others all over the world who need your help."

Thanks for posting, It's  gut wrenching what the mothers of these two are going through. It's a crime against humanity to put them through this after 10YEARS.

Now there is this ungodly rush to kill them to satisfy the politics of Watta Joko

They did not care about anyone else's family or what this would do to their own.

Re: Boycott Bali

"โ€ข Nearly four Australians die every day from overdose. Overdoses out-numbered road fatalities in Australia in 2012. According to the

Australian Bureau of Statistics overdose deaths totalled 1,427 in 2012, while road deaths, which have been steadily declining, ended

the year at 1,338. (Data provided to Penington Institute by Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2014).It is estimated that globally there were

183,000 (range: 95,000-226,000) drug-related deaths (mostly overdoses) in 2012, with opioid overdose the largest category.Source:

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) 2014 World Drug Report."

For anyone trying to minimise the crimes of the Bali 9.........consider the above figures.
