Fred Nile is questioning whether the surviving hostages of the Lindt Cafe deserve bravery medals.
He is saying the boys in the cafe don't deserve awards because they didn't do anything to save the women which is ludicrous thiking to start off with.
But I do agree with the last line:
"They should get recognition for what they suffered as hostages but I don't think they should get bravery awards," Mr Nile told Fairfax Radio.
"Normally bravery awards are given for an act of bravery - that somebody actually does something. They haven't done anything."
We do seem to get confused about bravery and the media often calls bravery awards for people who have saved themselves instead of for people who have saved others.
What do you think?

Not surprising
The following from 2 different links, were published about 3 days ago.
Ms Dawson suffered a number of shrapnel wounds, with one hitting her aorta. The revelations Ms Dawson had suffered wounds from a ricochet were revealed in The Australian on December 27.
But it has since emerged that Mrs Dawson, 37, died after she was hit by bullet fragments from a police weapon.

Shot by a police ricochet bullet.
So? If she threw herself on top of her pregnant friend when the shooting started, instead of thinking only of herself, does it matter whose bullet hit her?
No, it doesn't matter in that regard, if that is what she did.

Julie Taylor
Yesterday, Ms Taylor paid tribute to Ms Dawson, a colleague at Eight Selborne, who reportedly protected her throughout the siege.
“Her bravery and strength was, and continues to be, a comfort and inspiration for me,” Ms Taylor said.
The full details of what happened in the cafe during the siege may not come out until after the investigation is complete. The police asked hostages/witnesseses not to tell their stories to the media until then, didn't they?
Whether it was a police bullet or hostage taker bullet caused controversy because of this:
Deputy Commissioner Catherine Burn left cabinet members believing hostages Tori Johnson and Katrina Dawson were killed by Monis, only to learn later that Ms Dawson died after she was hit by bullet fragments from a police weapon.

No I don't think it does. She took an enormous risk in doing what she did.

I think the family of the 2 killed should should on their behalf recieve awards and if tony wants to strut centerstage he could write to all involved expressing regrets for involving Australia in events that let to this occurence.

If the news reports are correct, it was Tony who put forward the idea that survivors should get a bravery awards, and it was this comment that Fred was responding to.

I understand that, but that is SEPERATE FROM what he was implying, which IMHO was that Abbotts Policies caused the whole thing to happen.
I question that, as did the person following me.
