now you made me look at my bedroom carpet and think, OMG! it needs a clean. so i priced the renting of a cleaner at foodland this morning, works out to $60 once i buy the shampoo and foam stuff. i only have carpet in the one room.
my question is, does it leave the floor wet/damp as i do have to sleep in here afterwards and the dog sleeps next to my bed.
maybe i'd be better to put the $60 towards replacing the carpet with floating flooring like the other rooms and put a nice rug next to the bed.

I bought a Bissell carpet shampooer a couple of years ago and it's amazing. I think it was $295. It was half price because it was then considered to be last years model. It looks like an upright vacuum cleaner. The first time I used it I nearly threw up when I emptied the collection chamber. You think your floors are clean, but OMG, they're not! The only downside is the collection chamber is small, probably 2 or 3 litres, which means you have to refill and empty regularly. I'm guessing they did it that way so it was suitable for everyone to use. Even an old person could use it, as could someone in a wheelchair.
I love it and it was worth every cent I paid for it. My carpets were flat in the high traffic areas. After the first wash the pile was all standing up and it looked brand new (even though it's over 20 years old). It doesn't have a water heater in it so I fill it with hot water. After I've washed I go back over it again with plain water to get the excess detergent out of the carpet. I then go over it again to suck up any excess water. Generally dry in about half an hour and feels sooooo soft to walk on!
I usually do mine every month because I've got pets that come inside and bring their dirty feet with them.

I hired one once, I think it was from woollies. Damn near broke my back filling and emptying the rotten thing. I vowed then I would always find the money somewhere to pay someone else to do it for me

Hi Lurker
They do a better job then the carpet cleaning people- the hire is for 24hrs so you can go over it a couple of times during the 24hrs.
I am so happy with the end result.

David let the dog out and point him in the direction of tiggywink92's place.
