Thoughts about the Feds not allowing cattle to graze in National Parks?
They stopped a whole industry because of animal abuse overseas, yet are quite happy to allow these animals to starve to death in Australia.

You know what he said???
That these farmers should take out one of their loans...
There's $60 million on the table right now for Queensland farmers for interest-free loans that [Premier] Campbell Newman's refusing to sign up to," he said.
How can our farmers take on any more debt.... in QLD we have had floods, fire and drought...on top of the disastrous Indonesian animal trade issue that caused them even more debt...... we cannot afford more debt for our farmers...
When I heard this on radio today I was stunned....
If you let them graze the land that is left with fodder then that might help prevent major bush fires that will be due to start up soon up here in the North QLD region... then we will have nothing left...
Farmers are struggling.... and any town related to farming is struggling... don't make them take on more debt. If they decide to sell off the land they have they might make it out ok but if they take on more debt you will see more farmers take their own lives... there will be no escaping for them.

LL, we are not talking heritage listed parks... they are talking old properties that are now set aside to regrow... a thing I support... but we need to also look after people.... and the people are suffering.

burke is no idiot. i'd like to see whats on those properties . keeping cattle in poor condition alive for its own sake is no reason to damage the parks being re vegetated. if their business model is failing due to drought or any other reason it may be time to think about doing something else.. if the company a city-dweller works for fails, then he/she's out of work. i dont see why cattle people should be any different..or special cases.

There is an over abundance of cattle because the Federal government cut off supply to Indonesia, leaving the graziers with more animals than they could feed. The Feds created the problem.

well i thought the footage from indonesia did that. people love animals more than people in the cities, even if the outcome isn;t the best for the animals. i don't think that is ludwigs fault.

OK Brace yourselves people.
Lakes - I agree with you AGAIN!
*faints*
I was trying to say pretty much what you said up there, the other day - didn't go down too well though....
I am so pleased that at least some people understand "the big picture".
LL, Whispering and Meh - you've all got a handle on reality (at least as far as this topic goes - dunno about others)...
There is hope in this world yet.

i totally agree that grazing in national parks causes terrible destruction to the land. Australian flora is not compatible with hooved animals. I also agree that other small businesses fold when they fail and are not given continual handouts and help by governments. if a farm is no longer economically viable then it is time to move on.
