Buy A Bale Of Hay For Christmas

AUSTRALIANS are being asked to buy a bale of hay as part of a fundraising campaign launched this week, which aims to keep struggling farmers on the land.

Stemmed from northern cattle producers tough season with no live trade export, drought and bushfires which burnt feed stocks, the Aussie Helpers' Buy a Bale Campaign has received calls of assistance from Victoria, Tasmania, NSW and Queensland.

Just days in the making, the campaign has received almost $10,000 in donations as well as $100,000 from the Bartercard Charity Foundation.

Aussie Helpers head Brian Egan said the calls for assistance reflect a tough time for Australian agriculture.

"The donations will save someone and our only agenda is to keep people on the land," Brian said.

"Many of these farmers won't just fail financially, but may become victims of depression through no fault of their own making,"

I dunno, It's probably not much wastage considering the crop size. They probably don't use the best melons and it looks like a good clean family fun day with lots of laughter, no violence apart from that inflicted upon the watermelons and lots people with energy to burn.

This happens in other towns too, with other food.  I can't cop the waste when they then complain that shoppers are buying food grown in other countries.

My mother grew up in that town, and her family built a farm from nothing and with nothing.  She would turn in her urn if she saw that.

do cattle eat melons? And how many melons can you eat before a surplus can be consumed or preserved? And if you're going to compost produce back into the ground, might as well have a bit of fun with it.

Nah cattle don't eat anything much but grass. That's why they're nutritious for humans to eat. Iron and all that.

Unless they're force-fed grain and steroids in feed-lots, which makes them very high in fat which is not good for humans.
