Re: COMMUNITY FRIENDSHIP THREAD FOR EVERYONE

Morning all. I wrote a nice long post and the internet dropped out and I lost it. :_|X-(

Cold and wet here today. Hoping for better weather tomorrow. We pack to move on and can not if the camper is wet. So fingers crossed. Though I will get things done today , so it is a quick fold down.

Our plans have changes again. lol. Off to Kingston and then who knows. Will just take it as it comes. I think R would just like to be up north.

Going for a short walk soon. Making a stew for dinner tonight. Good weather for it.

Sorry to hear about you step dad Dame. It is just so sad when this happens.

Can you tell me ( do not have to) what signs one should look for with dementia etc? A family member is showing signs of forgetfulness more often than usual. Like forgetting a convo that happened less than 10 minutes ago. Forgetting things that have been arranged already. Forgetting to do the everyday things one does routinely. Thanks.

Re: COMMUNITY FRIENDSHIP THREAD FOR EVERYONE

Hi there Purps, yep forgetting things is a sign but these days doctor can ususally pin point things and make a diagnosis.
I think we first started to be aware with my step dad when he would continually leave the hot plate on and drive out the garage and leave the door open as in not pressing the button to shut it.
He couldnt remember to have his shower or have a shave or wash his hair, he started to deteriorate progressively from there.
There is an awful lot of help out there but you have to search for it and this is where the net comes in handy:)
Hope you and R are well and tell R I have had 3 cigarettes in 2 weeks, do not have any in the house so that is just what I have been offered when out:)
I am so looking forward to seeing you guys when you come up my way:)

Re: COMMUNITY FRIENDSHIP THREAD FOR EVERYONE

Thanks Karen, I think it may be a bit easier now as he is sort of a bit of a lost soul now days as most times he is not really aware of his surroundings and he is forgetting who we are most of the time(except Mum) but at times he sort of just stares at her as if he is trying to work out who she is, and yes it is really sad.
We will bring him of the home for special days and the odd weekend while we can, but Mum has finally agreed it is too much for her, so it will all work out:)

Purps the important thing to remember also is that dementia can start as young as 40 years of age although this is fairly rare..........doctors can tell with blood work and a head scan.........the parts of the brain that get knocked out especially with vascular dementia which my mother had..........appear a lot darker on the scan........even a non professional can see.........and by seeing where the dark patches are......and these can be very small to start with ........the docs can work out what body function mental function has been or is about to be knocked out........all in all a dreadful illness...........they can also be quite hot headed as well......and that can kick in at any time of the illness:(
