jvh -:_|I hope your Mum has a peaceful passing, as mine did. I knew it was near and had been sitting by her bedside holding her hand, and then I went out into my room and called a friend to tell her it would be soon, and then I went back in and mum was gone.
My first reaction was relief that it was over - and I felt sooo guilty.:-(
But in the end I realized that she was ready to go, and it was a relief to her too.:-)
Even though you know it's coming you'll deny it, and don't feel guilty if you don't grieve at first - you've probably done lot's of grieving in the last few months (already).
Please be thankful it's over for both of you, I'm sure your mum would agree. No guilt - you've done your best:-x
So pleased you have family around you at this time.:-)

Good evening everyone!

JVH hugs and compassion to you at this sad time. You have been through so much of late - stay strong. Hoping your mum is resting comfortably this evening when you visit with your family.

libby thank you so much for your kind words. Actually I learned long ago that I am happiest when people I care for are happy and I take great delight in doing whatever I can to make this come about. Hope you are enjoying the weekend!

Dame a lovely long trip sounds just what the doctor ordered for you (and a lot of fun too!) - looking forward to hearing of your adventures!

Lilly hope you manage to get some rest.

Hi pjbear hope you are still on the mend and still taking care.

Hi scatty was sad to read about your losing your mum. Hope you are not working too hard!

Purple looking forward to hearing about Townsville. Will be nice for you to catch up for a coffee with Kezza!

Gardening and housework and pie making here today. Just watched 'the Bill' and popped on to wish everyone a friendly goodnight.

Gentle hugs to you JVH - sweet dreams everyone.

Hi dame - sorry to hear about your step-dad
Please remember that the one saving grace of dementia is that "they" don't remember.
It may seem hard putting your dad into a home - but he won't remember what he's lost!
I was completely surprised when my Mum didn't fall apart after my Dad's death.
Her lovely demented brain translated him into me. And so long as there was someone going out to work each day he was still there, for her.
She completely confused anyone who didn't know our circumstances by referring to "Bill" who went out to work each day.
The carers all became me - and so she felt loved and cared for until she died.
One night, when I was getting her ready for bed she was telling me all about what "Margaret" had said, and I said "I am Margaret" and she replied "Oh I like it when you're Margaret".
It's so much harder for we who live in reality - the demented have a wonderful way of readjusting their existence to make life comfortable.
Just remember, your step dad is like the preschooler, who keeps telling you he'll never survive if you leave him, but 5 minutes after you've gone he's right into the finger painting with the rest of them.
{dame}
Sorry to rave, but I hope this helps.:-x
