I will kick it off with our most recent discovery which is a hidden gem on Philip Island, Australia.

White Salt Fish and Chips

7 Vista Pl

Cape Woolamai VIC 3925

The food is cooked to perfection and the seafood is locally caught and tastes amazing. This is not your ordinary greasy fish and chips and is better than the so called best place we were eating at nearby. There was no grease on this fish and chips.

This shop allows YOU to salt your own food and they have a selection of sauces to choose from. You can eat in or sit outside and feel the sea breeze from the beautiful waters.

The chips and potato cakes are hand-cut, the batter they use is tempura, they even serve tempura veggies which we will try next time. The flake, scallops, prawns and chips were delicious. We'll try the potato cakes next time too. We haven't had scallops as good as these in years not even when dining in so called 5 star restaurants.

We love this place so much we can't wait to head back to Philip Island.

This shop gets 10/10 from us!

I loved Halo Restaurant where we had a luncheon party  for my mother-in-law's 80th.  Couple of years ago.

It is overlooking the Swan River in Perth on the Barrack Street Jetty.  The reviews are quite mixed with both great and awful recommendations.  For us it was lovely.  Each meal was delicious and artistically presented and the service was great.

Also UFO, don't tell anyone else this because it's already starting to get busy at lunch times but if you want to buy the most delicious cold meat and salad roll, try the little continental deli near Woolworths at Maddington City shopping centre.

Ask for a ham and salad with beetroot on a crusty white roll.  $6 and they cut it in half because it really feeds two people.

This is just between us, OK?

joono, that fish shop on Philip Island, the secret must be out about that too....whilst we were ordering there were 2 Americans ordering too. We chatted a bit and they said they had had it twice in 2 days.

Yeap this shop is not your ordinary run of the mill fish and chips. The owner is a chef and they have salads and all kinds of things.  You get to eat on a plate with fork and knife, you'd have to try it for yourself to see. The batter is nothing like we've had before.

The River Restaurant, Moruya NSW

from their website:

Food makes the world go round

The RIVER Moruya takes this concept to a higher plane, with passion, purity and perfection. Produce sourced locally, mostly organic, seafood so fresh it smells and tastes of the sea, herbs from the restaurant garden, everything made in house, including cured meats.

Chef Peter Compton's obsession is clean, fresh flavours, food that is clearly what it is but with tantalising, subtle and intriguing undertones

Possibly one of the best meals I have ever had.  It was truly superb.

We almost never eat fish and chips but that place sounds pretty good. We'll be heading down to Philip Island to visit the penguins some time in the next couple of months so we'll check it out.

The food is amazing and it all comes out on plates to the centre of the table for everyone to share.
