Can You Please Help Us Choose a Pet?

My son wants something cuddly.  Not a fish, not a bird (although I would like a bird).

We live in a tiny teeny 2 BR unit ... it is not big enough for a cat or a dog.

It would be nice if it could like happily in a large bird cage ... as I have one.

NOT MICE OR RATS.

Do you have your own little garden or must it stay inside?  I can't think of anything that would be happy enough inside all day except a mouse or rat but if you have a garden then a rabbit would be great or a guinea pig.

you need to get a rabbit that has been handled since birth and you need to get a rabbit desexed, regardless of gender.  They always poop in the same spot so easy to train and pee next to it.

Definitely a guinea pig..........they are easy to feed............and look after............an ideal first pet.

Birds in cages is so cruel. Birds are made to fly free, yet humans throw them in cages.. I don't get it and I reckon it should be banned.

how about a guinea pig? Actually you'd need two, or it's cruel.. And a big cage.. And running around the flat time.

Not fair to keep a rabbit inside all the time if it can't go out I wouldn't think.

A bird would be ok if the cage is big and you can let it fly free regularly.  Cockatiels become very tame and sit on shoulders.

We don't have a garden as such, but our units are surrounded by a large area of grass.  It could certainly go outside on a leash.

Why should I get the rabbit desexed, Freaki?  Just curious ... we've always had our cats desexed and microchipped etc.

Karen, if we did have a bird, it would have the run of the flat most of the time ... and it would be a hand-raised one ... and, I'd have agreed with you completely a year ago, but I saw the cutest hand-raised birds recently ...
