Cashless Welfare Card

Could this be the end of the tragedy of alcohol fueled violence and child neglect.

A cashless welfare card aimed at stemming alcohol abuse would be rolled out across the country under a welfare reform the Turnbull government is considering taking to the election.

As regional trouble spots line up to be chosen for trials of the government’s new Healthy Welfare Card to begin next month, The Australian understands the Coalition may seek an election mandate to extend the card to welfare recipients across regional Australia if they achieve positive results.

Under the new system — proposed by mining magnate Andrew Forrest in his review of the welfare system in 2014 — 80 per cent of a person’s government payment would be quarantined to a bank card that could not be used to buy alcohol and gambling products, nor converted to cash.

The remaining 20 per cent could be accessible as cash.

The card will not stop fraud, it will not stop people buying cigarette's, it will not stop people buying alcohol, it will not stop domestic violence.

It is so simple to get around, all you need is a friend or a family member that works, you go with them to do the weekly shopping and use your card to pay and they give you the cash.

Then there will always be people that are happy to take advantage of disadvantaged people and will give them only part of the value of the card each week.

people that are addicted to smoking, drinking or gambling wont stop and need be will just turn to breaking into your house or car while you are busy working.

The real reason for the card is to condition people to accept the idea of a cashless system before forcing it onto everyone.

It is much easier to control people when you cant even chose where you spend your money and they even know what brand of toilet paper you use, its all about control

OMG!  It is even worse than I imagined.  Not even ALDI is able to accept the card and  for each participant, the scheme costs between $4,500 and $7,700 to administer!!!!!

The ABC asked Woolworths if their computer systems red-flag banned goods such as cigarettes or alcohol.

A spokeswoman said it came down to staff discretion.

"Staff in these stores receive specific training relating to the use of BasicCards,'' she said.

This scheme should be applied only in absolutely extreme cases.

so woolies expects a 15-16 year old child to stand up to angry bloke or woman demanding to buy cigarettes !!!

it is the same as those services they are putting in place to help people cope with the change

Really who will use them and how much is that going to cost.

i no idea why they keep reffering to it as being a trial when it is not

ecspecially when they are putting in services to help deal with it.

obviously think everyone was born yesterday

I would like to see those in govt.

ditch their weekly pay or fortnightly  however they get it and  be issued with a cashless card and be made use it for a whole year and see how they manage.

Well Hawk, bribes and kickbacks have never been declard as income, so it will be as it has been, cash in hand. That will give them the money for their letcherous life and still not make any difference the way they are thinking about the struggling welfare receipients.

Put all ex-pollies on the cashless card and see how they manage. Not having any influence in government anymore, there will be no bribes for them.

Listen how they howl in protest.
