Sorry Braff but I can't agree with you. Funerals are to give comfort to the living and if a church service is going to comfort his brother then of course it's the right thing to do. Do you seriously imagine Catty's Dad is going to be chucking a tanty in heaven because he didn't get the funeral he would have preferred.

If MY funeral goes to plan, it should be fun..

I am planning to be 10 minutes late, like I have been for everything else in life LOL

(just wondering how I can organize that , though??)

No offence Ms Cat, but your fathers funeral should be what he would have wanted, not what other people want.

Your uncle can have his kind of funeral when it is his turn.

But, - if you are all happy with it then so be it.

braff we have tried to (gently) explain dad didn't want a church service to our uncle but he is so devastated with grief we felt we couldn't 'steamroll' over his feelings. He is a lovely soft spoken man and he isn't doing this out of spite. He is probably doing this because he feels this is the right thing to do in his mind and that's okay with us. Perhaps it's important to him to have a religious service and we are accepting of this.

I'm sure dad will understand. Dad and this particular brother were best mates. We have all reached the point where we feel the best course of action is to accommodate our uncles feelings. The way we see it funerals are for the living to express their love and grief. I'm sure dad will see the humour and if he has a problem with it he can take it up with his brother :^O

It was different planning our mum's funeral because her siblings didn't even come to see her on her death bed, nor did they turn up for the funeral ๐Ÿ˜

We had complete control and I must say I think my sisters and I arranged a beautiful funeral. We choose White Lady funerals, my sister (a florist) did the flowers, we chose mum's favourite songs, read poetry .. and even had a female celebrant. We put together a DVD slide show of mum looking divine and stylish in those gorgeous clothes of the 50's. It was very girly service.

So we are okay handing over the reins for dad's funeral :-x This will be a blokey blokes funeral (with hymms) :^O

I agree in the end its what makes you all happy.
my Dad hated to spend money, he was know for being tight.

When he passed , my sisters and myself went to the funeral parlor and picked the most expensive coffin, the most expensive flowers, the most expensive urn ( we placed Mums ashes into the coffin )
We hired a piper etc , etc .
Then had the wake at in a beer garden with food and a open bar.

We then had written into the service that we hoped he didnt come back because we had had a ball spending his money on his funeral....this gave everyone a laugh.

lots of love Terry โ™ฅ
