I had my eyes tested yesterday and I have small cataracts in both eyes. They normally would not be big enough to cause problems but one of them is in awkward place so my vision is slightly blurry. It was recommended I have them removed in a year.
So I guess I have two choices. Be placed on the waiting list for 2-3 years and have them done through Medicare or pay for them myself. I'd have to take out a personal loan. If I started paying for private health insurance would cataract surgery be covered after 12 months?

Re private health insurance - you would have to read the policy to see if you would be covered for that.. policies vary from health insurer to health insurer.
Some health insurers offer no waiting periods on some items, to encourage people to sign up with them.

I was going to say its a matter of shopping around but that's a good point, Crystal.

Sell some of your belongings.

I've been reading up on private health insurance and it's so confusing!
I might need to pick up the phone.

cat did you have any symptions that you might have cataracts before the eye test? Just curious.

Just slightly blurry vision even with my glasses.
If the cataracts were in a different position I wouldn't have had any vision symptoms because they are tiny. It's just that the one in the right eye is in a awkward position.
Have you had vision changes?

Noticed more floaters and looking at the tv is not as clear as before. Looking at the time on the dvd player from where I could see it before I have to get closer. The floaters got worse after I had a sneezing fit strange as it sounds but the next day I noticed quite large floaters appear.

Maybe get the bad one done now and the other later, I don't think both can be done at the same time?
