Catholic Church cover up.

A story in the Herald Sun today, about how the church covered up the abuse by it's priests for many years, moving this priest from parish to parish.  It breaks my heart to think about these poor children (now adults) who had to endure this abuse for so many years and the people that should be protecting them protected the guilty.....I hope that Priest never sees the light of day again.  How could the church not think that this was a reportable offence?  It's a crime committed!  Some of the parents also did not want to know about it.  I had recently read a book about a mother who sent her three girls to a catholic school, two of them abused by the same priest, the older one taking her own life (after multiple unsuccesful attempts) and the younger turned to alchol and was hit by a car.  The church offered them $50,000-00!  No compassion, just take this and be quiet.  More people need to be held accountable for this.

Re: Catholic Church cover up.

Unfortunately child abuse of any form is not reglion specific.

One of the positive things imo to come out of the royal commission is that people now feel safer coming forward to tell of their suffering.

So in the case of child abuse the catholics are worse than the anglicans?    Sounds like catholic bashing and very one-eyed.  Did anyone read the link in #2?  I mean - really read it?

abuse is abuse, not saying that catholics are worse than anglicans?  There is no defence for either of these actions, cover ups, protecting the guilty and deserting the innocent, turning a blind eye.  It's heartbreaking.

exactly!  imagine these poor kids, telling their parents and being chastised for speaking about their priest that way? For the parents, to then go to their church leaders again for them to be told not to tell anyone - we will deal with it.  So sorry Jean to hear about your abuse, people abusing their power in the worst way possible.  Boys town was another well known for it's abuse.

Re: Catholic Church cover up.

I knew a man who was sent over here as a child migrant and ended up in one of WA's notorious boys homes and was sexually abused.  He unfortunately couldn't tell anyone until he was an adult
