Children Visiting Hospitals

Why do people take children to visit patients in hospital then let the children run around the corridors and in and out the wards.

Just visited a friend in hospital who has had a work accident and is in the orthopaedic ward.  While we were there 3 children came in to the ward and were crawling under the beds etc.  I took them out to the nurses station and the nurse wasn't very happy as they have been there most day and are just run riot.

Re: Children Visiting Hospitals

My 7th grandkid was born in a local hospital last November.

10 lb plus- a robust young bloke.

Was taken into the hospital in a sealed parcel-(a womb).

Ok for 3 days -then got meningitis.

He hadnt been playing on the floor or using the stuffed toys in the waiting rooms.

Spent 3 weeks on life support and drips- it was a real worry at the time.

He will be ok -but i wonder how it happened......................Richo.

Glad the little fella is doing OK now.

The issue is with cross contamination, yes the staff protocol should prevent it but the fact is that not all nurses wash their hands when entering and leaving a room or between patients and nor do doctors.

Re: Children Visiting Hospitals

Doctors are notorious for not handwashing or using the hand sanitizers provided.

Dr Jayant Patel was one who used to go from patient to patient [after touching dirty and infected wounds with his bare hands] without washing. [mentioned many times in the book Dr Death].

Glad he's doing well now.

Perhaps one of the visitors coming in had contact with someone with the disease. Someone can carry the bug that causes meningitis and be perfectly well themselves. It is usually spread by kissing, or by droplets from nose/mouth. [ie a person sneezing or coughing].
