don't be, this is far more interesting.

Yeah I think it is.

I personally think he is in prison to be kept quiet.  He does have some unpopular beliefs and even though his credentials have come into question (his academia seems to have mainly stemmed from the Universal life church which is not state recognized accreditation) he would still have studied very hard to complete these courses whether they are state recognized or not.  His crimes are more deserving of fines and he should be forced to pay back what he owes to the IRS (which he has) and the latest charges were not proven in court so why is he still in prison?

My favorite post of this thread so far:

"I've just ploughed through the whole convoluted history of his "ministry" and I agree the poor man shouldn't be in prison - he should be in a mental institution."

I'm enjoying this thread 🙂

But thats only commenting on his religious and scienific assertations.  And as I said earlier these have nothing to do with the reason he is in prison and why he has been there for so long, when people who commit actual crimes can walk the streets as "free" men...

Actually, he recieved his doctorate from Patriot University - which is UNaffiliated with ANY state boards of Education.

Enough cash, and hey presto...you're a doctor!

An extract below is from Wikipedia, (and has been verified on other sites), on the good doctor...

"In 1988 and 1991 respectively, Hovind was awarded a master's degree and doctorate in Christian Education through correspondence from the non-accredited Patriot University in Colorado Springs, Colorado (now Patriot Bible University in Del Norte, Colorado, which no longer offers this program). Having a website called "Dr. Dino" has provoked some academics to look closely at how Hovind presents his education and credentials. Barbara Forrest, a professor of philosophy, expert on the history of creationism and activist in the creation-evolution controversy, wrote that Hovind's lack of academic training makes it impossible to engage him on a professional level.

Patriot Bible University is a diploma mill, as it has unreasonably low graduation requirements, lack of sufficient faculty or educational standards, and a suspicious tuition scheme. The school's policies allow students to attain bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and Doctor of Ministry degrees in months, rather than years, for as little as $37 per credit.

Re: Christ's Last Words To Israel

He has several doctorates two from Patriot as well as a theological doctorate and an honorary divinity doctorate from the Universal life church. Regardless of peoples opinion of him or the institutions he studied at, there can be no denying he has studied the bible alot.

Barbara Forrest, a professor of philosophy, expert on the history of creationism and activist in the creation-evolution controversy, wrote that Hovind's lack of academic training makes it impossible to engage him on a professional level.

She may have struggled "to engage him on a professional level." But many have debated extensively with him on a professional level. So whoever Barbara Forrest is, her input there is merely conjecture.

I'm not here to stand up for what Mr Hovind believes or preaches, my issue is with the cruel and disproportionate punishment he has recieved and continues to recieve for what (in the big picture of crime) seem to be relatively minor crimes. He has paid his debt to the IRS as well as spent over 8 years in prison, that should be enough imo

Re: Christ's Last Words To Israel

He's served time, yes, but he's about to face new charges, as he deliberately attempted to sell off assets during the last few years, to once again avoid paying what he owes. Sorry, but the whole family are 'Snake Oil Salespersons!'

His wife lied to federal police during their arrest, their son Eric has been coercing funds out of the gullible to shore up family =owned assets - the list just goes on and on...

The most recent trial regarding mail-fraud (his newest "charge") ended on March 12th, with Hovind found guilty of contempt of court. The jury found that the government had failed to prove fraudulent intent, and was unable to reach a verdict in most fraud charges.  So he'll be back to court on the 12th June.  This is just getting ridiculous.  You would probably lie too if the IRS came and raided your house like a swat team in the middle of the night.  How does the list go on and on?
I wouldn't deny that he had done well from his work. And yes when he speaks he does use alot of rhetoric and act somewhat like a sales person.  And not paying income tax is taking a risk.  And his history of lawsuits is extensive.  But one could argue that his most recent trial has been unfairly perverted, there is supposedly no prima facie standard evidence, and no proof of fraudulent activity in regards to mail fraud.   Just a charge now of contempt...

"Just a charge now of contempt..."

Gotta agree with that. He's pretty contemptible, that's true.

But yeah, he's obviously **bleep**ed off some authorities, who now have it in for him.

But...given the sheer volume of people he's fleeced over the years, (yes, they gave willingly, because they are extremely susceptible and gullible), it's more a matter of karma, now.
