City traffic delays question

Just watching the news and seeing yet another traffic back up in Sydney because of an accident got me wondering. What happens to all the people travelling to work caught up in these long hold ups? Do their employers just have to wear it? Do they have to make up the time they are late (not always possible). Do they get their pay docked?

Not important really, just curious.

I would never dock people if there was genuine unforeseen situation like this.  But I have worked in places where the boss not only docked you for every minute, but also gave you dressing down  😞  It did not do much for staff morale.
