Classical Music Appreciation Thread

I love classical music, and I know the Countess likes it too. Maybe there are also lurkers who like it. 🙂

Anyway, maybe some will like to post classical music here (or listen to it).

You can post opera arias, piano recitals, orchestra concerts... - anything you like. Classical music is used in its broader meaning in this thread.

Please post links rather than embedding videos because sometimes the videos won't load.

Let's start...

Luciano Pavarotti - Una furtiva lacrima/lagrima (from L'Elisir d'Amore by Gaetano Donizetti)

Re: Classical Music Appreciation Thread

One of my favourite recordings is Buxtehude: Sacred Cantatas, with the Purcell Quartet joined by singers Emma Kirkby, Suzie LeBlanc, and Peter Harvey. The whole thing is of surpassing beauty.

I recently found the whole thing on YouTube as well, so I can link to it as a playlist for you to enjoy.

Of the tracks, I particularly love the duet work between the two sopranos (although don't get me wrong; the bass is also excellent).

The piece Herr, wenn ich nur dich hab, BuxWV 38, is most exquisitely sung by Suzie LeBlanc (https://youtu.be/LOfHb50pTLk). It's truly one of the most beautiful things i've heard. Interestingly, Emma Kirkby also sings this piece in another recording (https://youtu.be/hjFtArvLVh4), and that is also gorgeous. The difference between the two is that Kirkby's interpretation is of inner contemplative joy, whereas LeBlanc is bubbling with joy outwardly expressed.

Also... I'm so sorry, I kept forgetting to post links of the pieces performed in the Tallis Scholars performance.

I can hardly describe the sensation of listening to the Tallis Scholars live. It was of such purity of sound, with the most perfect blend imaginable. No one was unmoved. The Allegri was OF COURSE a highlight, and I don't think I will ever forget the exquisiteness of those top Cs sung by the section of the group placed behind us on the balcony. The different placement of the three sections gave a wonderful sensation of antiphonal rapture.
