Police are investigating after a statue of Captain Cook was defaced in Randwick on the weekend.

It is believed black spray paint was used to deface the statue overnight on Saturday.

Pictures taken of the statue on Sunday show the phrase "no pride in genocide" and the outline of an Aboriginal flag drawn onto the monument.

The graffiti was cleaned by Randwick Council on Sunday.

The incident comes as a statue of Captain Cook in Hyde Park was also graffitied with black spray paint on the weekend with the messages "no pride in genocide" and "sovereignty never ceded".

What does that mean, defaced with black paint? Did they paint Cpt. Cooks face black?

Hard to forget that

It's actually quite easy to forget that, because it's not taught in history classes at school.

School curriculums have other things, like gender equality and civil disobedience.

Unless a person actually takes an active interest in Australian history and reads up about, it the general public woudn't know.

Least of all the new migrants coming in.

I'm sure they have their own beef about British colonialism and it's brutality.

SBS should run a few documentaries about that, instead of their endless WW2 docos.

If I hadn't been part of that 'subsequent migration' none of my descendants woud be here today. I don't think they have ever had a problem 'deaing with it' or felt it debarred them from commenting on Australian History or current affairs.

If the Anglo Saxons (and possibly the Vikings) hadn't settled in Britain when they did, then I probably woudn't be here today. Iv'e never felt that made me any less British.

Not a problem with me , but then again I am not trying to revive ancient Rome, however having said that I do think as noble those who are trying to restore knowledge and appreciation and even function of values of their collective racial origins or part origins and embrace in a meaningful manner in this time and circumstance - in fact with my family origins being so long in this country, for a white fella, I am quite interested in acquiring accurate background knowledge as i feel a certain blending of the influences of formation of living of life almost transcendent , from down the generations , as I think for me I have value in ancestral influences, experiences forming attitudes and also ambient community , what ever form that was , comprising what ever racial groups of influence existed

If I have read your reply correctly, I have not referred to anything intended to revive ancient Rome. Constantine became the ruler of Britain and it was there that the birth of the Roman Catholic Church took place and later developed into a powerful political force. If your family origins are so long in this country and you do want to acquire accurate background knowledge, then you need to consider the early history of Britain, as well as the ancient history of Rome.

Yes, a large proportion were white and many were truly supportive and caringof the Aborigines. Indeed, every Australian taxpayer is very supportive of the Aboriginal communities.
