I stuck a frozen burrito into the over-the-stove microwave a number of years back, punched in 3 minutes, then decided I needed to spend a little time on the throne.
I was immersed in a magazine, when I noticed kind of a burned smell wafting through the bathroom.........remembering the burrito, I returned to the kitchen, through a haze of smoke ( detector never did go off) and gazed at the now dark microwave.
Inside, what looked like last night's log fire glowed malevolently deep inside. Apparently I had entered 30 minute into the oven, instead of 3 minutes. Not only the burrito had been toasted, but the microwave also...........
A $400 experience!!

my beloved hubby decided to heat up some goulash in the oven, since i had taken apart the micro to clean it. this would be fine, except for the fact that he put the tupperware container in the oven.
suffice it to say,my MIL bought me a new stove, and threatened her son's life, lol!

Reminds me of Lisa's cupcakes on Greenacres. She made them in china cups 🙂
Funny story line, but that's actually how the term originated

My mother was hard boiling some eggs when the phone rang and she answered to a friend. I could hear her talking and laughing as I was sitting on the verandah. All of a sudden there were several explosions and an ugly burnt smell. Mother had forgotten about the eggs, the water had boiled out and the bottom of the saucepan was red hot, shooting eggs up at the ceiling.
Since then, I never left boiling eggs unattended.

I have managed to set fire to 2 oven mits and have set fire to the baking paper on the plate while getting food out of the wok - twice.

It was my job to supply a pavlova for a family function. I made it, and it ended up looking like a flat biscuit? Cursed and made another one, same result. That was when I realised I had added plain flour instead of cornflour. Think that ranks as my most annoying faux pas.

I was making a white sauce and it just wouldn't thicken..kept adding more cornflour mix...nup, and it started looking and tasting weird.
I had been using custard powder instead of cornflour !!!!
