Re: Corona virus in packages?

Remember  that it is winter time in China and people are also fighting off seasonal flu and common cold , not to mention a myriad of other less common pathogens like streptococcus along with plunging Vitamin D levels

The adversary may not be just coronavirus

Re: Corona virus in packages?

So basically it is a 'ploy' by the Chinese to take over the world by planting a virus in packages ?

Is that what you want the people here to believe ?

Nobody really knows anything much about this virus, but how long it stays in the environment has been establishe at 4 - 5 days with 9 days in only one test in Germany.  It takes at least 2 weeks to get here from China, so I am not concerned.  I am expecting some clothing soon; will wash it as soon as it comes out of the package, and hope for nice hot day to dry it in the sun.

It is a coronavirus.

Other coronaviruses include SARS, influenza.

There is enough experience with those to get a rough idea.

I would take the precautions I would for flu.

Just becaue it is a similar type of virus does not mean it will behave the same.  Actually, I just read today in one of the cientific publication that I get, that the active virus has been found in infected but asymptomatic people's poo, and around their anus.  Also it seems that some people are lot more infectious than others.  One asympomatic woman in Korea (?) seems to have infected whole lot of others.

Precedent is in any number of malicious attacks via mail...and of course the Simpsons

I was referring to any extant precedent involving coronaviruses, with media, being transmitted through the mail.

Anthrax or botulism doesn't count. Different bugs.

The worry might be if the package is an express air delivery - not likely for ebay purchases from China
