1923 Australian Halfpenny Coin (Low mintage - Rare)

The above is an example of a seemingly straightforward listing for a coin worth $1,500 plus.

Why have so many bidders cancelled their bids?

Simple answer;this coin is a 20 cent counterfeit.

How the bidders who cancelled found out item is fake I don't know.

Long gone are the days when members could warn others of fakes--what a shame.

Back to real footy where Essendon are leading my Pies.:-(

You know more about cars than I do joz

and I probably know more specifically about OZ pre decimals.

In this case main giveaway is that the fake has curved base reverse side letters

whereas the real deal can only have flat base letters.

There are other giveaway signs as well.

I love American and English cars post war to about early seventies.

That is interesting JJ......I come from the era of the halfpenny, and I looked at the coin and thought there was nothing wrong with it.

I like American cars too Joz........my first car was a 1962 pontiac..........I really loved that car.
