Not to avoid a jury trial, not because the maximum penalty in that court is five years in jail, but because the sum of the offences is a grand total of $27,000 over a number of years on things that may or may not have been reasonable expenses.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out now it's not a matter of bringing down the government the robbed the LNP of their rightful place on the throne.
Whoever created the credit card in his name didn't even get the spelling correct.

Yes, he has.
It was quite bizarre to hear the news reports yesterday.
Someone on ABC24 reported that he had succeeded in his attempt for a summary judgement heard by a magistrate because the maximum penalty is 5 years in jail. Forget the evidence is flimsy and the charges have been overplayed an exaggerated by most news sources for the past 2 years, or the fact that he has proved he was not int he state on the dates of the so called brothel visits.
It is staring to look like his foes don't care for the truth. If he could not handle to crap and topped himself the truth would not have come out at all.
Steve Lewis should be investigated for trying to bring down a government and turfed out of the Press Gallery.

We'll have to wait for the magistrate to decide if the charges are valid or not.
The office manager should have made sure any personal expenses accrued at service stations etc. were paid back.

This article sheds lot of light on facts about the case:

FN: " Forget the evidence is flimsy and the charges have been overplayed an exaggerated by most news sources for the past 2 years, or the fact that he has proved he was not int he state on the dates of the so called brothel visits."
What codswallop FN, Thomson is facing 11 counts of theft, 31 counts of obtaining property by deception and 131 counts of obtaining financial property by deception. There is civil action initiated by FWA, and Federal court action for fraud.
FN: " Forget the evidence is flimsy and the charges have been overplayed an exaggerated by most news sources for the past 2 years, or the fact that he has proved he was not int he state on the dates of the so called brothel visits."
Forgetting that a Federal Court judge has already decided that their is also, prima facie, a case to answer regarding criminal charges (fraud) in the Federal Court.
Forgetting that Thompson dropped a defamation case against Fairfax Media, for suggesting he used union funds to pay for prostitutes when they indicated that they had evidence and were prepared for the litigation.
Forgetting that Thompson later falsely claimed to FWA that Fairfax had agreed to settle the case because its handwriting expert had concluded ''the signatures on the credit card forms [for brothel receipts] were forged''.
Forgetting that Fairfax said the claim were false and deliberately misleading, and demanded that Thompson correct the statements he gave to FWA.
''Despite the clear representation made by you that Fairfax had made a payment to you … it was in fact you that paid Fairfax the sum of $240,000,''
Forgetting that Thomson agreed to the Fairfax demands.
FN: "The office manager should have made sure any personal expenses accrued at service stations etc. were paid back"
Service station is an interesting term for a brothel, but apt!

For one who usually backs due process you seem to hold Thomson to a different standard.
It will be interesting to see what the Magistrate has to say.
The charges are being heard by the Magistrate on August 16th.
The credit card supposedly used for the brothel is in the name of Thompson not Thomson.
