I think.
I just find what they're doing so abhorrent I see red very quickly.
What Donna has failed to mention here is that before export, the MLA went to Indonesia, took Australian approved equipment and methods, and trained and implemented procedures.
Once they left, some of the Indonesian abbotoirs reverted to "their own methods" sold equipment and falsified reports and evaded inspections.
The MLA was already investigating what was happening and had ceased operations on some abbotoirs when this went to press. The MLA continued to clean up the remaining abbatoirs and restored standards, whilst removing accreditation from those that did not comply.

The difference here is captivity (where chance of escape from the cruelty is limited to non existant) and the wild where prey does get away more often than thought. Where lions can and do die of starvation and can ond often are killed by prey on the defensive. The zoos in China which throw in live cows to be attacked by lions for spectacle is cruel as it limits any fighting chance.

One can measure the greatness and the moral progress of a nation by looking at how it treats its animals.
