Cryptic Stuff

While it was done some years ago I see, I thought I would try a cryptic crossword-like thread for fun and to try and boost a little more interest here. I made up the below question for anyone interested in such a challenge. I thought the first person to get it correct might come up with the next question. A clue though - if you copy one from a newspaper or magazine etc., the answer can often be found on the internet. I can explain the answer for anyone who asks. 🙂

The prisoner at the cave would not stand for the electrically charged droplets of water.

Re: Cryptic Stuff

Beast can just mean a creature, a living being in the animal kingdom, including birds.

But... also... the whole word meaning is:

Of an animal: ⚿⚿⚿⚿⚿⚿⚿⚿⚿⚿⚿⚿⚿⚿. Now chiefly in the names of birds.

I've used the squared key symbol to replace the actual meaning. So while the word is mostly known in relation to birds, it is also used in relation to animals. And - BIG REVEAL - that meaning derived from its use in botany, although the ... no, I won't say anymore.

for example = ?? (two letters)

therein separately = [container indicator] [the two letters are included in the clue below separately, not together]

presented = you'll frequently hear this word for "presented" in a culinary situation.

Re: Cryptic Stuff

You have it, not_for_sale.

Capped is the beast, for example, therein separately presented.

Capped is the beast = [whole word clue] From the OED,

pileated, adj.

Of an animal: having a cap or crest, esp. a conspicuous one. Now chiefly in the names of birds.

for example = i.e.

therein [container indicator]

separately [separate the i and the e]

presented = plated

plated +i.e. placed separately inside = pileated

Over to you.

Re: Cryptic Stuff

No wonder I was having trouble.

I was trying to find a word containing e.g. not i.e.

Plus I've never heard of that word, although I thought I had quite a good vocabulary.  😕
