Cryptic Stuff

While it was done some years ago I see, I thought I would try a cryptic crossword-like thread for fun and to try and boost a little more interest here. I made up the below question for anyone interested in such a challenge. I thought the first person to get it correct might come up with the next question. A clue though - if you copy one from a newspaper or magazine etc., the answer can often be found on the internet. I can explain the answer for anyone who asks. 🙂

The prisoner at the cave would not stand for the electrically charged droplets of water.

More clues

Still, on one hand the fellow drops in for a quiet exchange, admits the idiot (7)

There are two charades, a letter exchange, a containment. (Two main charades, but also a single letter abbr and single letter charade, for the letter exchange.)

[charade] [abbr] [letter substitution indicator…->] [charade] [<-…] [containment indicator] {charade}

The container has a letter substituted by another letter, and then the containment takes place.

Re: Cryptic Stuff

You have it, nfs.

Still, on one hand the fellow drops in for a quiet exchange, admits the idiot (7)

on one hand [charade: five]

the fellow [abbr: F]
drops in for … exchange [letter substitution indicator]
quiet [charade: p]
five -> pive

admits [container indicator]
the idiot [charade: ass]
… => pASSive

WHOLE DEF

still = passive

And you’re up.
