Cryptic Stuff

While it was done some years ago I see, I thought I would try a cryptic crossword-like thread for fun and to try and boost a little more interest here. I made up the below question for anyone interested in such a challenge. I thought the first person to get it correct might come up with the next question. A clue though - if you copy one from a newspaper or magazine etc., the answer can often be found on the internet. I can explain the answer for anyone who asks. ๐Ÿ™‚

The prisoner at the cave would not stand for the electrically charged droplets of water.

Conversation in between is good - the clue usually - is a one liner - with the number of letters.

So - are we dealing with King Lear - or was that a comment.

Countess??????

The one quite a few posts ago about the Chinese instrument is the countess' clue.

The one about boiling her pots was related to the conversation re pot boilers.

Very confusing when we all have a conversation in between clues   ๐Ÿ˜ต

sorry mate, that was my fault.  I take full responsibility for disrupting the easy flow of the clue/ answer flow ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think Dom's comment was in response to mine, where I stated I was seeing cryptic stuff everywhere. I think that's why she wrote it the way she did.

So sorry! I've been out and about, doing things of import, and realising that shredding (by hand) several large cardboard boxes into strips of cardboard for the compost bin was probably not a good idea... Ow... left shoulderblade...

Yes, the cryptic puzzle from me was Collected Chinese instrument before particular day (1 word, 6 letters).

The discussion about pots and boilers and chefs (including the Lear/leer comment) was a segue.

not_for_sale has solved the cryptic clue. (You are good at this.)

Collected = whole word clue. (Not the verb as one might expect, but adj. as in "She was very collected", meaning "sedate".

Se = A twenty-five-stringed plucked musical instrument, somewhat similar to the zither. This ancient instrument was already widely used during the Spring and Warring States period (770โ€“476 b.c.). The number of strings was not fixed in ancient times. (OED)

before = "se" goes before the next part of the clue

particular day = date

Hence se before date = sedate.
