DDU / klarry

DDU can I ask you about your chooks? You do have chooks don't you?
Roughly what sort of cage do you have i.e. wooden? How many chooks & what/how much do you feed them? I searched chook houses on ebay, do you suggest a good one?

Klarry what is needed to fox proof a chook house? We were thinking wire underneath and perhaps sleepers too? Are snakes & rats a problem?

Any information would be good ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: DDU / klarry

Ok.... I've been too busy to come on the boards for many weeks, but my chickies have been fed, watered, treated with fresh spinach leaves every day, and the occasional corn cob since I got them.
Their pen is moved regularly so they get to walk on fresh grass when that happens.

Am I just not a good chickie mother, WHERE ARE MY EGGS!

See post 305 if you want to see the pics

They should be around 26 weeks old at this time, and so far NO EGGS.

Re: DDU / klarry

I don't know. Only one of mine lays and when we got her she was already laying ๐Ÿ™‚

And she's giving us enough eggs. I have two other hens.

Re: DDU / klarry

Sent an email to the chickie place and they replied saying they should start laying soon.
They said when the chickies have nice red combs they will be ready to lay. One has red combs which are now much larger than when she arrived (named her Flo), the other (named her Poppy)still has small pink combs which have grown larger but are only half the size of Flo's.

Have noticed Flo up in the 'house' kicking around the woodshavings so I guess she is getting 'clucky'.
Must remember to take i pic of her first egg and upload it.

Put a couple of plastic eggs in there to give them the idea, if that fails get yourself a rooster ... keep him until they start to lay then advertise him and someone will take him (although he will become dinner so don't get attached to him!)
