DDU / klarry

DDU can I ask you about your chooks? You do have chooks don't you?
Roughly what sort of cage do you have i.e. wooden? How many chooks & what/how much do you feed them? I searched chook houses on ebay, do you suggest a good one?

Klarry what is needed to fox proof a chook house? We were thinking wire underneath and perhaps sleepers too? Are snakes & rats a problem?

Any information would be good ๐Ÿ™‚

Foxes and hawks will go for your chooks during the day as well as at night.

If you have dogs they may act as a deterent to the hawks and foxes.

If you havent got neighbours close by a rooster also guards the chooks agaist hawk attacks, but is no match for a fox.

Even if you have roosters running with your hens the foxes always pick off the hens before the rooster.

Sad fact of chook keeping, Im afraid.

Chooks have to be locked up in a prison camp to keep them safe.

You may get away with it for a few months but in the end they will be fox food or hawk food.

And the first night you get home late on long summer evening without locking your chooks up before dusk, will be too late, the chooks will be dead or have just disappeared and if you are lucky all you will be left with is a few feathers. Very sad but true.

I know fluffy, I remember it happening to someone I knew, they went away and the first night the pet carer didn't lock them up the foxes got all of them

Yes, rats are a problem, they are attracted by the grain put out for the chooks.
They live in holes in the ground under the chook house.
