DDU can I ask you about your chooks? You do have chooks don't you?
Roughly what sort of cage do you have i.e. wooden? How many chooks & what/how much do you feed them? I searched chook houses on ebay, do you suggest a good one?

Klarry what is needed to fox proof a chook house? We were thinking wire underneath and perhaps sleepers too? Are snakes & rats a problem?

Any information would be good ๐Ÿ™‚

Eggs laid by free range hens are lower in cholesterol than commercial chickens which are caged in small cages. The cages are too small for the chickens to get the proper exercise.
a myth? like the rooster one? maybe......

OMG they are hilarious, I gather in the pecking order the boss cocky has to sleep at the top, well two of them got up on the laying shelf ready to settle down for the night while boss cocky larger bird Erica was eating. And one was pecking at the other to try to force him (young rooster) off.. then Erica got up top and just pecked them both until they both got down and there she sat for the night!

That's a decent sized egg too ... what a good chook ๐Ÿ™‚ My black one has been acting broody so I put all the little eggs under her today and she's wandered off the next now ๐Ÿ˜ž

Can you refresh my memory, which coop did you get from Bunnings? The smaller or larger one? are they sturdy enough? I'm thinking of putting 5 or so of them in my new orchard and splitting the silkies up

I've burnt the box now but it was the larger one, one you can walk into, it was about $300. It was one of the cheaper coops around. We have it on the side of the house that has less wind and shaded from the afternoon sun.

One place we went to, the woman told us they can blow away so she told us to stake it in which we've done.

Ah .. the summer sun could be a problem too ... and the wind here is quite bad sometimes. Thanks .. will need to think more seriously about that.
