We have the official ACCC "Do Not Knock" sticker on our door which makes it a criminal offence for any person to knock on our door.
Yesterday we had a door knocker.
Today another door knocker.
Are these people not capable of reading English OR are they simply dumb and dumber?
This is what it looks like:

we have this one, maybe it works better because it says that it is unlawful. your sign says "unwelcome" which is not so much of a deterrant as "unlawful". last guy you couldn't read i pointed at the sign saying "can you read that sign?" he started his sermon again, then i slammed the door on him.

Joanie, I don't know the laws in US, but here in Australia either of those actions would land you in court. Not really good advice.

I wonder if there is a way for sprinklers to be switched on as soon as someone enters the front gate that way they will be completely soaked for daring to knock.

Put a lock on the front gate.
If they go over the top it is trespassing.

Sounds like you want to deter everyone, ufo. Have you thought of digging a moat?

Awesome Home Security Technology EmailPrintAs a brief diversion we thought it’d be worthwhile to suggest some best-practices for building your home which could negate or reduce the need for an electronic security system altogether. For instance, simply building a moat around your house could reduce chances of break-ins by a factor of about 85%, according to our scientists’ estimates, and it could also be used for swimming. Introducing the “Swimming Moat” (Est. cost $275,000 to $650,000, depending on size of home): - See more at: http://blog.monitronics.com/2010/07/awesome-home-security-technology/#sthash.TY8NBeuV.dpuf
