After three days of investigations, the Boston Police Department has identified one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects as Ivy League student, Sunil Tripathi.
Tripathi, who is identified by a white cap in the FBI photos released late this week, was a philosophy major at Brown University, not far from Boston. He comes from a well-to-do family; his father is a rich software engineer.
The student went missing last month without a trace. The FBI became involved in the case, even though it was a presumed suicide.
Right before his disappearance, explosives were found near Brown University, however, they were destroyed in a controlled detonation. Police have yet to implicate anyone in the bomb scare.
The search was focused around Providence, RI, where he was last seen and was recently extended to surrounding states, including Connecticut. Please let Sunil’s family know if you have seen him. For the most up-to-date information, please check in on the Help Us Find Sunil Tripathi Facebook page.

Authorities, family, and friends are searching for a 22-year-old Brown University student. Sunil Tripathi was last seen Saturday morning on Brown campus on the East Side of Providence at around 11:00 am. He was wearing a pair of blue jeans, a black Eastern Mountain Sports ski jacket, glasses, and a Philadelphia Eagles wool hat. He is six feet tall and weighs 130 pounds.
Family and friends are working with the Providence Police and the Brown University Department of Pubic Safety to find Sunil. The FBI has joined the greater Providence community to assist in the investigation. We are focusing on the greater Providence area, where flyers have been posted and media has dedicated extensive press coverage. The search is expanding outside of Providence to Boston, Connecticut, New York, and Philadelphia. Family and friends are grateful to all those assisting in this search for Sunil.
Momentum in the search is growing. Former and current classmates, friends, extended family, the loving Brown community and the larger Providence community and law enforcement all continue to mobilize. Sunil grew up in Radnor, Pennsylvania and has been living in Providence since 2008. He is a talented musician, a saxophonist, a philosophy major, a critical thinker, and a kind quiet son and brother. The Brown University Department of Public Safety would like to notify the community of a missing person investigation.
Incident:
On March 17, 2013, the Department of Public Safety assisted the Providence Police Department in conducting a missing person investigation. Missing at this time is Sunil Tripathi. He is 22 years of age, approximately 6’2”, 130 pounds, with short dark hair. Sunil Tripathi was last seen in the campus area on Friday March 15, 2013.
