Terrible.....
Why do they do this and what do they hope to achieve
Chaos as twin blasts rock Boston Marathon
Two bombs have exploded near the finish of the Boston Marathon, killing two people, injuring scores of others and sending authorities rushing to help wounded spectators.
There was a large explosion and a white flash. It blew us all back onto each other. It was so loud, I still can’t hear out of my right ear. I was crawling on the sidewalk, and my cell phone blew out of my hand. There were some really hurt people.
The explosions occurred as recreational runners were finishing, at just before 3pm local time (5am AEST). Television footage shows two explosions occurring metres from each other near Copely Square as competitors crossed the finish line.
Runners fell to the ground, which flowed with blood. Police arrived with bomb-sniffing dogs and hotels were put on lockdown. Reports say as many as 90 people were wounded, with some having limbs blown off.

Police have found (and diffused) more incendiary devices near the finishing line, and are now checking the whole route length.
An appalling act of brutality onto innocent people.

So.. I was talking to my Son that is flying to Iceland... discussing his plans as I knew he was stopping over in London for 24 hours.
Knowing he was stopping in Brisbane to see friends before he leaves I was not sure if he was going to be there for the Funeral for Thatcher or not and wanted to make sure he was going to stay away from possible trouble spots...
Well no he is not going to be in London for that event but he is going to be there on the 21st... the day of the London Marathon.... 😐
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry....

I understand your feelings, but I'm sure you know that the risks are miniscule. Advise him to stay aware, but not to let it spoil his holiday.
Why is he going to Iceland?

I said to him I didn't want to ruin his holiday... but that he needs to be very aware while in England at the moment.. the nature of the vitriol towards Thatcher was my main concern... I didn't want him getting caught up in some extreme leftie protest.. omg they are full on over there with their protests.. lol
I am sure there will be no problem.. just really bad timing.... my heart skipped a beat when that plane skidded off the runway in Indonesia and I made sure I didn't call him up and make a dram over it... he is flying Emirates so is pretty safe.
His dad was telling him to watch out for pickpockets and steer clear of the Romanians.. ;\
There is a convention in Iceland to do with an online game he plays and helps moderate. He has been planning this trip for years, he had to wait until he was 18.. he will meet some amazing people... see and amazing country... and have an amazing time... I am so excited for him.

You and I have opposing political views, but I don't understand the huge protests at the time of the funeral. Don't know what that will achieve for them. Surely they could just be there "to make sure that she was dead", which some people did in Qld whan a past premier died.
I believe pickpockets are a huge problem everywhere. Hope your son has a wonderful trip.

opposing political views are what makes for a good democracy. We need different opinions or things will not progress... sometimes oppositions have fantastic ideas that benefit everyone...
I just don't get violence in the name of politics.. not from any direction...
That is when innocent people get hurt... like what has happened today. There has to be some form of politics behind this...

I have just read on AOL that the death toll has now gone to 3 one is 8 years old, I hope there are not any more deaths but I suspect there will be RIP:-(.
The one thing I find odd about this is that no one has claimed responsibility, usually someone whether it is true or not has claimed responsibility by now.

maybe the guilty one got blown up too? and it was a personal vendetta? sounds a bit amateurish for terrorists
