Why do they do this and what do they hope to achieve
Chaos as twin blasts rock Boston Marathon
Two bombs have exploded near the finish of the Boston Marathon, killing two people, injuring scores of others and sending authorities rushing to help wounded spectators.
There was a large explosion and a white flash. It blew us all back onto each other. It was so loud, I still can’t hear out of my right ear. I was crawling on the sidewalk, and my cell phone blew out of my hand. There were some really hurt people.
The explosions occurred as recreational runners were finishing, at just before 3pm local time (5am AEST). Television footage shows two explosions occurring metres from each other near Copely Square as competitors crossed the finish line.
Runners fell to the ground, which flowed with blood. Police arrived with bomb-sniffing dogs and hotels were put on lockdown. Reports say as many as 90 people were wounded, with some having limbs blown off.

perhaps it would be appropriate to stop and reflect - not with guilt, but with acknowledgement - on the first part of the comment.
You are right TGSE
I feel for people that live in countries that bombings and war are a part of every day life.
I think however that this has shocked people because things like that are not meant to happen in a civilised country during a passive event like a marathon....
anyway..... poor people run in marathons.. not just rich people and not just white people...

It may not even be a foreigner, americans have had their share of home grown bombers Ted Kaczynski the unabomber for one.
Just watching the news, it is so awful 😞
They say NO suspects yet.

I think also it frightens us, Cat, because we suddenly realise these things don't just happen to the undifferentiated brown stuff' described by Orwell in his essay Marrakech, they happen to real people and might very easily happen to us.

i can normally view pics of tragedy and while it does affect me I move on - that one is haunting me.
that poor man 😞

Haunting is the word I should've used pepe. Just innocently watching a race. I hope he survives, but his life is changed forever

i think shocked was a pretty good description too.

I am really angry at the people online that are saying that guy is faking it..... that he is part of a conspiracy ...
they have found a photo of a us soldier that lost his legs.. they are saying it is the same man and that both pics are fake... I could not think of a more disrespectful thing to say while this man fights for his life...
Really... some Americans are just too stupid for their own good.

pictures like this are the reason people are so skeptical and doubt everything is real.
and all the conspiracy theories that fly around.

yep, have seen that pic already.
its all we've heard all day- give it a rest. the only bombs that matter today in our world are the ones in Boston.
