My sister wants me to go to Bangkok with her as she believes she can get dental work done
there for a fraction of the cost in Australia. She needs to have some crowns and wants to have
teeth whitening done as well. I'm a bit concerned about her having this done there especially
the hygene side of things. I know I've read about some bad results and problems done with
surgerys but just wondering if anyone has had dental work done there and if you would recommend
it or say "bad idea", save up and have it done in Aus.
Thanks for any information given

I decided long ago that if I needed serious medical treatment that Thailand is the first place I would consider going.
I don't know about dental work, but a while back (about 10 years), I slipped on a wet floor in a Bangkok restaurant and one of my toes ended up swelling to double size and going very black. I was due to fly back to Australia in a day or so, and the next morning I went to a local BKK hospital to see what was up. I was seen by a doctor in minutes. He sent me to get an x-ray within minutes. Within a few more minutes, I was back in the doctor's office and he told me that my toe was not broken, just sprained or strained. He then gave me prescriptions for 5 different kinds of medication which were filled, again, within minutes. One of the pills was a super-duper pain killer and that was the end of the awful pain. Cost??? About $30.00.
Hygiene? Totally clean. English speaking doctors. Kind people. Efficient. Awesome.
My two brothers both live in BKK. If you want to send me the name of the facility, I can ask them if they've heard of it. No guarantees, but happy to ask.

The old saying "You get what you pay for might apply?"

At least if it was an Aussie dentist you'd hopefully have some comeback if something went wrong?

Blue, have had friends go to Bali and Bangkok recently to have work done, fantastic.
My OH has been quoted 50 large to get his teeth fixed - he has had falsies since 14 and the jaw bone is wearing away, it would cost him about 5k over there.
He's saving up now to go get it fixed over there. They say the hospitals are so clean and the work is 1st rate. Do your homework obviously but from my experience with my friends it's been all positive.

and for only crowns and whitening I wouldn't be too concerned. that's not major dental really is it? I've had my teeth whitened here, paid $800 (after medibank rebate). I'd imagine it would cost a lot less over there plus a holiday. bang!

I have a friend that had some dental implants done in Thailand at a fraction of the cost that we are charged here.
He was very happy with it and his teeth look great.
