Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

However, it appeared in the information released that work that “involves nudity or is in the sex industry” would not be considered ‘gainful’ under these terms.

I wonder how many young people with no income will be forced into the sex industry by this government.

Liberal Party hit by another social media controversy after member's homophobic comments

The Liberal Party has been hit by another social media controversy, with a young member forced to resign from his post at Swinburne University Liberal Club after posting homophobic and sexist comments on Facebook.

It follows revelations in the Fairfax Media that Young Liberals from Melbourne University referred to women as ''bleeps'' and Muslims as ''degenerates'' on social media. It also comes in the wake of two Liberal candidates resigning ahead of November's state election over a series of offensive tweets and Facebook posts.

Mr Hockey (current Treasurer of Australia) sure did get the Budget wrong. I think he should be replaced, he is obviously not up to the job.

Suspended Liberal MP Tim Owen admits lying about returning $10k in cash from property developer and Newcastle mayor Jeff McCloy: ICAC

In an extraordinary development, suspended Liberal MP Tim Owen has confessed to a corruption inquiry that he lied about returning an envelope stuffed with $10,000 in cash to property developer and now Newcastle mayor Jeff McCloy.

Mr Owen admitted at the Independent Commission Against Corruption on Tuesday that he met Mr McCloy on Sunday and the two men "shook hands" on a plan to lie under oath about the money.

The inquiry heard Mr McCloy will give evidence that Mr Owen told the developer that "my wife will divorce me" if he admitted taking the cash, which is prohibited under laws in NSW banning political donations from property developers.

The shock confession puts the Newcastle MP under pressure to quit state parliament immediately rather than waiting until the 2015 election.
