As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed. The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.
This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.
and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says
The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.
Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.
"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

During the Circus days and the GFC I saw no signs of Australia's ambassadorial residences being downgraded!, In fact a second embassy (to the Holy See) was opened , also in Rome, by Rudd in 2010 making it "2 embassies in a spending fountain" perhaps. !
"The Govt (the current one!!) says spending must be cut." It is a pity that the Circus did not have the same thought, and act upon it.
Why live in the past? It is a bit lame when people including the PM and MP's all they have to say is .. Labor did it, its Labor's fault.. sounds like a 4 yo in trouble with his Mum, blaming his little brother for something the 4 yo did wrong.

Tony Abbott adviser warns of threat of 'global cooling'
Opponents label comments ‘terrifying’ after Maurice Newman writes opinion piece in the Australian newspaper
The Abbott government’s chief business adviser, Maurice Newman, has warned that Australia is ill prepared for global cooling owing to widespread “warming propaganda” in his latest critique of mainstream climate science.
Newman, who chairs the prime minister’s Business Advisory Council, said there is evidence that the world is set for a period of cooling, rather than warming, leading to significant geopolitical problems because of a lack of preparedness.
Adam Bandt, deputy leader of the Greens, said Newman’s comments were an “embarrassment to the government”.
“Tony Abbott needs to repudiate these views and dump Mr Newman from his Business Advisory Council,” Bandt said. “Someone with these flat-earth views has no place helping set policy for 21st century Australia.”
Mark Butler, Labor’s environment spokesman, said of Newman’s article: “These kinds of comments would be laughable if he didn’t have the prime minister’s ear.
“As it is, it’s terrifying that Maurice Newman continues to advise the prime minister at the same time as he campaigns against clean energy for Australians, and peddles myths unsupported by any credible scientist in the world.”

Do you have a link for that ^^ from a reliable source? A signed copy of the lease perhaps?

Mr Rann and wife Sasha Carruozzo will live in the four-bedroom apartment with swimming pool just one kilometre from the world-famous ancient Roman Forum and Colosseum.
The home is leased by the Federal Government and is understood to have been empty since former ambassador David Ritchie left in November last year.
The five-bathroom apartment has been the ambassador’s temporary home since major renovations on the official residence in the northern suburb of Parioli began in 2012.
The apartment’s huge rental cost, which works out to more than $1000 a day, can be revealed as the Federal Government warns of a horror May budget aiming to slash spending and reign in an $18 billion deficit.
After inquiries from the Sunday Mail, the Department of Foreign Affairs admitted Mr Rann’s Rome apartment at Via di Sant’Angelo cost “AUD 32,441.35 or EUR 25,307.50’’ a month.
In an emailed statement, the department said the “residence has four bedrooms, family room, study, five bathrooms ... combined living/dining room and domestic quarters and has access to a swimming pool.’’
The department couldn’t say how long Mr Rann would spend in the rental accommodation. ( so not committed to a 3 yr lease then?)
It said “refurbishment of the official residence is on hold pending completion of land stabilisation works by local municipal authorities’’.

Fuel spend as a % of net worth
Poor Australians spend 45 times as much on fuel as rich Australians (as a % of their net worth).
This graph is divided into 5 equal groups (‘quintiles’), by how much they’re worth – total assets minus total liabilities. The ‘Lowest’ quintile represents the poorest people.
Fuel spend as a % of gross household income
Poor Australians spend 3.4 times as much on fuel as rich Australians (as a % of their income).
This graph is divided into 5 equal groups (‘quintiles’), by how much they earn per week, before tax. The ‘Lowest’ quintile represents the poorest people.

As mentioned above, I used ABS data to derive my calculations. Here are the tables and rows I used, if you’d like to double-check me:
These file names and row details will make sense to you once you download the files (‘HES 2009–10 Detailed tables’ and ‘Australia_Data_Tables_2009-10′ from the ABS site.)

Abbott and his whole party are Out of touch with All of us. This government is hell bent on taking all our hard earned rights and flushing them down the toilet ....... The Liberal gov is to interested in lining their own pockets to care about the little bloke . I noticed Abbott put his own wage up one hundred thousand dollars as soon as he was in office . He is just a white collar criminal in my mind and should step down and let an honest person take over ... .....
Poor people don't get 60k dad's mate scholarships either.....
The POOR tax payer funded Joe Porky's travel to the tune of $340,000 for the last 4 years. $200,000 on cars and $140,000 on airfare.
